BEEF EASIER Coast Lambs on Top (Our Own Corrpsno:. .?nt.' CHRISTCHURCH. June 12. Seventeen hundred fat lambs were offered. The quality was good. Exporters were free buyers up to their schedule. Butchers were keen for the heavier sorts. The top price was 26s Id for the best of the West Coast consignment. The best prime heavy lambs sold to 265, prime 21s 6d to 245, medium 18s to 21s. light from 14s 6d. There was a full yarding of mutton, mostly light conditioned. The lightweights were dull of sale. Best grades were in steady demand at slightly firmer rates.
There was a small offering of store sheep. Values were fully up to late rates for store lambs, and the best grades of ewes and wethers. There was a big increase in the yarding of beef as compared to last week, including numerous lines of prime quality, also many drafts of light and inferior sorts. The market was irregular throughout, with an average casing of 15s per head, and with occasional lots up to late rates. Values per hundred pounds were: Best prime handyweight steers 21s 6d to 23$ 6d, heavyweight steers 18s to 20s. light from 16s; best heifers 20s to 23s 6d, prime 18s to 20s, medium from 16s, best cows to 19s, prime medium 14s to 16s, inferior from 10s. There was a smaller offering of fat pigs with many unfinished sorts. Best grades sold readily in both pork and bacon. Others were inclined to ea*e in values and sold irregularly. Porkers sold from 25s to 31s 6d, heavy 33s to 39s 6d, baconers 45s 6d to 51s 6d, heavy 55s to £3 Gs 6d, extra to £3 10s 6d.
