QUETTA ROCKING
SHOCKS EVERY DAY City May be Abandoned (Rec<l. June 11th at 8.10 p.m.) CALCUTTA. June 11. Earthquake shocks continue every day in Quetta. Two severe shocks occurred during I the week-end and one was almost as bad as the original one. Over twenty thousand persons have evacuated Quetta since June Ist, the majority of them belonging to Sind | and the Punjab. It is revealed that between June Ist and June 7th. fourteen thousand telegrams reached Quetta. Over three thousand of these are still undelivered. The addressees are believed to have perished. It is estimated that the damage to Government military buildings an 1 j
railway property is nearly two million sterling. The private damage is incalculable. Among the miraculous escapes was 'hat. of an Indian woman, who was dug out after two days, during which she had given birth to a child. Both are well*. The Government is unlikely to decide for some time whether to rebuild Quetta on an earthquake proof basis, oj‘ to choose a fresh site.
