TECHNICAL SCHOOL

BOARD OF GOVERNORS. The monthly meeting of the Board of Governors of the Greymouth Technical High School was iheld .last evening, there being present: Messrs 'l'. E. Coates (chairman), F. B. Lttwn, J. Nelson, W. Blair and R. McLaren (Principal).

Accounts amounting to £202 7s 4d were passed for payment. It was decided to write to the Minister of Education, thanking him fo’ - the manner in which he had heard the deputation from the Board, and for his grant of £l2O for repairs to the school, painting of the roof of the Hostels, and tor the stumping of (he playing area, 'The Education Department advised that Messrs J. Goodall (employees* representative), W. Kyle, and W. Blair and Mrs I A Chalk (parents’’ repre sen’tatives) would retire from the Board by rotatio.n, this year, and it Would be necessary to hold the election in August next. All of the retiring members were eligible for re-election. The matter was referred to ithe Principal to attend to.

The Principal said that ihe had had ; heard, from a reliable source, that the Runanga train, which now left Greymouth at. 4.50 p.m., was to be put back to 5.15., in order not to delay the down miners’ train at Runanga. This would be very inconvenient to the 45 pupils of the school who travelled by the train, as it would leave them so much time after school, and they would not get home until late. Therefore ho had written to Mr Brittenden (District Railways Traffic Manager) suggesting that. instead of leaving later, the tiain should leave a quarter of a.n hour or ten minutes earlier, say at 4.35 or ■1.40 p.m. As yet he had not received a reply to his letter. Mr Nelson agreed that, the idea of the Principal was a good one. but said that an inward goods, which arrived about 4.30 might prove a Stumbling block to the suggested arrangement. The tenders of Messrs Mann and Murphy (Greymouth) for the painting of the roof and the downpipes of the Hostel, was accepted. Messrs A. A. Adams and W. Kyle wore appointed as the visiting commit’top for the ensuing month. PRINCIPAL’S REPORT.
