ASHBURTON. May 24. The wres't.ling season opened here last night, Pereira, and Narberes meeting for the first time. Only superior weight gave Pereira a win, with one fall, in the seventh round. The bout was distinguished by a complete absence of showmanship. Narberes demonstrated uuusual ability and energy, Pereira being fully extended. A feature of the bout, which went the whole distance], was ithat Pereira was held helpless in the whole • of the third round and half the fourth round, by a short-arm scissors, which he failed to break, even though he dragged Narberes all over the ring. Narberes’ flying tackles were a revela'tion.
