SHIPPING STRIKE
At Vancouver U.S.S. COY. HANDS INVOLVED. (Aus. and N.Z. Cable Assn.) VANCOUVER, May 23. A general shipping (tie-up at Vancouver is threatened with the strike of Union Steam Ship Company seamen and freight handlers and the cancelling of scores of Empire Day excursions. Waterfront workers plan to quit on Monday, supporting the relief camp deserters, who refuse to return to the camps. The movement iy branded by Mayor McGee as a Communist conspiracy to secure control of the city. The Minister of Defence (Mr Stirling) asserts that a shipping strike is plotted by United States radicals.
