“CRUEL” SPORTS

Blackmail Alleged AGAINST ENGLISH ORGANISATION. (-Received Mav 15, 9 p.m.) LONDON, May 15. In the House of Commons, resentment was expressed concerning a circular sent to every member of the House bv the League for the Prohibition of Cruel Sports, and particularly against the following sentence therein: “If We do not hear from you wo shall feel justified in letting your constituents know you have no objection to blood sports.” I Mr Herbert Williams described this as a particularly objectionable form of political ’blackmail. The House unanimously declared that the circular was a gross preach of privilege. The circular asked the Members t'o state, separately, if they would support legislation making illegal, firstly. all cruel sports; secondly, stag hunting; thirdly, fox hunting; fourthly. hare and rabbit coursing; and fifthly, otter hunting.
