The death has occurred at Blackball of Mrs Alec XT c Donald, a native of New South Wales- aged about 60 years. A light was noticed burning in deceased’s residence. Deceased was Iving in bed. and had apparently boon dead since the previous evening. She had recently returned from a health trip to New South Wales. Many friends will regret to learn of the death of one of the oldest residents of Barrytown district, Mrs Ellen Cargill, which yesterday occurred at the ago of 86 years. The deceased, who latterly had been living at the O’Connor Home, Westport, was a sterling type of pioneer, and wtis highly esteemed by all who knew her. Predeceased by her husband, she leaves a family of three sons and five daughters, well-knoiwn residents of Barrytown district. The funeral takes place at Barrytown at 9.30 to-morrow morning leaving the Catholic Church, where Requiem XFas s will be! celebrated at 9 a.in.

Mrs J. Armstrong. Runanga, who leaves to-day on a holiday visit to Queensland, was tendered a farewell luncheon in (he Club Pavilion, by the ladies of the Runanga Croquet Club The tables were decorated with flowers and the Club colours. The President, Mrs Erikson, paid a tribute to Mrs Armstrong’s work during the pioneer days of the Club, of iwhich she was the first President, concluding by wishing her a pleasant voyage. Mr s Braithwaite, Xfr s Wilson and Mrs Wright also spoke. Xfrs Armstrong was presented with many useful gifts in appreciation of her services. Xfrs Armstrong thanked all for their generosity and good wishes. The gathering concluded with the singing of ‘‘Auld Lang Syne.’’
