Serious head injuries were sustained bv Mr Stratford Smith, 38, married, residing in Winnie Street, about 645 o’clock last evening. Mr Smith, who is employed by the Railway Department as a carpenter, was cycling home from work when he struck a pedestrian, Henry Coburn, near the » Gas Office, in Tainui Street. He fell heavilv, sustaining a fracture of the base of -he skull. He was attended bv Dr 11 S. Rav. and later removed to the Grev River Hospital in the. ambulance. His condition is serious.
