WELCOMED BY ROOSEVELT. WASHINGTON, May 10. The ice-scarred Bear of Oakland, carrying Admiral Byrd and more than 100 men, pushed their way up the Potomak River to her dock late today, where she received a tumultuous 'welcome. President Roosevelt and the Cabinet greeted the explorer, praising the expedition for its gain ,in human knowledge, and furtherance of the progress of civilisation. Admiral Byrd said: “If I could have rubbed Aladdin’s Lamp, T could have had a wish as to the kind of welcome I would select for my men and myself. The wish would have been to have our President welcome us back. This single act of youry is adequate reward for anything which itlhe expedition may have done for science.”
