Two Championships

For the third successive year, New South Wales has established a record for the eight-oared State championship of Australia, and Turner of New South Walesfi has established a record performance at winning the Australian sculling championship for the fourth successive year. The events were rowed on the Nepean River Penrith yesterday in fine weather and good water. Results:—
King’s Cup, three miles —New South Wales 1, Western Australia 2, South Australia 3, Victoria 4, Tasmania 5, Queensland 6. Won by two-third of a length; third four lengths away Time 16.20 1-5.
New South Wales led at the quarter mine and thereafter fought the issue with Western Australia, with South Australia a close third. For a good two miles, there was practically nothing between the two leading crewi, and until the last quarter of a mile, South Australia was still within striking distance. The heavier New South Wales crew managed to draw away slightly in the final burst, but "Western Australian fought gamely, and the local crew was fully extended to win. New South Wales were 211bs a man heavier than Westralia. Sculling Championship of Australia, 24 miles —H. Turner (N.S.W.) 1; C. Peppier (Victoria) 2; C. Slaughter (Queensland) 3, H. Wilkinson (Tasmania) 4. Won easily by forty-eight seconds, with three quarters of a length between second and third. Time 16.36 3-5. Turner never looked like losing.
