MARIST BROTHERS

Annual Concert EXCELLENT PROGRAMME. Last evening at the Town Hall there was a crowded audience for the annual concert of the Marist Brothers’ pupils Judging by the applause the concert was much enjoyed the programme being of a bright and varied nature. The Brothers are deserving of the highest commendation for their work in producing such a fine concert and the boys too, for the way in which they cooperated with their teachers. To all those who gave assistance with the concert, the Brothers are deeply indebted, especial mention being made of the work of Mrs E. McDonnell and Miss Nellie McDonnell.

The programme presented embraced choir, instrumental, elocutionary and drill items, while the two playettes were the cause of much laughter and kept the audience in a merry mood. The choir items by the- boys, including the “School Song’’ and “Larboard Watch’’ and “Mother Hubbard’’ by the Convent Choir were excellent’y sung and reflected great credit on their teachers, the part singing being specially pleasing. A popular item was the

“Statue Drill’’ by the tiny tots and later in the evening the ‘‘Flag Drill’’ by the senior pupils was excellent and drew loud applause. The instrumental quartette items, selections from “Maritana” and “In a Monastery Garden’’ were beautifully played, each instrumentalist giving of her best. The dialogue, “The Unsolved Problem’’ caused roars of laughter, while Master Hamilton’s recitation, “Seeing Things’’ was excellently given. The scene from “Treasure Island’’ by the pupi s of Forms 3 and 4 opening the second part of the programme was a very colorful item. The two playettes

“Wireless and Such Like’’ and “Birds of a Feather’’ produced comedy of first class order. The cast in each play were excel lent ly chosen and the boys deserve every credit for their work The settings were ideal and greatly enhanced the productions. Mr P.
