CIVIC BAND

NEW CONDUCTOR APPOINTED. At a full representative meeting of the Civic Band. Mr Ernest Barton was elected as Conductor. Mr Barton has had seventeen years’ practical experience in brass bands, during which time he jdayed for two champion English bands as a solo euphonium player and also playing solo baritone for Woolston and solo euphonium for Greymouth Municipal Band. Apart, from his practical knowledge of all brass instruments, he held the position of DeputyConductor to the Greymouth Municipal Band for four years until he resigned. He is thoroughly conversant with counterpoint and theory subjects which are considered essential to successful band training. Mr Barton is a young and energetic man with a fine personality and it is felt that the Civic Band will prosper under his baton. The Chairman (Mr A. C. Kilpatrick) made reference to the excellent work of the ’ present conductor, Mr P. M. Outhwaite. and a motion of thanks for his valuable services was recorded in the minutes .
