Air George Scandrett has announced his definite decision to contest the Westport Alayoralty against the present Mayor, Air J. Kilkenny. Air Scandrett has on many previous occasions contested the position without success. Air J. Alenzies. who went to the poll last election, will not be standing this election. The nominations for the Buller County Council and Hospital Board (five County members) number twelve. The retiring members, Messrs Finlayson, Griffiths, Hawes, Al dirty re (Chairman) and Niven, will again go to the poll. Messrs Al. Clark and IL L. Evans are the nominees of the miners’ organisations for the Hospital Board, and County Council. They will be opposed by Messrs Hawes and Afclntyre fdr the Waimangaroa and Millerton Ridings respectively on the County Council. The nominations are as fol-

E. A. Washbourn have been nominated for the Alayoralty. There are seventeen canklidates nominated for the nine City Council seats. This is the largest number since 1925, when there were 19. There are four candidates for the Aucklam} City Alayoralty: Ernest Davis, Joseph Sayegh, A. J. Stallworthy. M.P., and H. G. R. Alasou, ALP. Mr Alason’s nomination thi* morning was a surprise, as Air Sayegh was chosen some weeks ago as the official Labour candidate. For the City Council (21 seats) there are 58 including full Citizens’ and Labour tickets, an.l three Communists. There are 28 candidates for the six seats in the Transport Board.

There will lie contests in most suburbs. but in One Tree Hill, the Borough Mayor, I. J. Goldstine, and the entire Council, were again unopposed, both for the second time in succession. Air R. Ferner was unopposed as Mayor of Alt. Albert. LATER. Auckland City- Alayoralty: Air Mason AI.P.. has withdrawn his nomination. leaving three candidates. DUNEDIN. DUNEDIN, April 24. Rev. E. T. Cox, the present Alayor, J. J. Alarlow. City Councillor, and R. S. Black. ex-Alayor, have been nominated for the City Alayoralty. For the 12 seats on the City Couficil, 31 have been nominated, including full tickets by the Citizens’ Association, and the Labour Party. TIMARU. TIMARU. April 24.
