Air George Scandrett has announced his definite decision to contest the Westport Alayoralty against the present Mayor, Air J. Kilkenny. Air Scandrett has on many previous occasions contested the position without success. Air J. Alenzies. who went to the poll last election, will not be standing this election. The nominations for the Buller County Council and Hospital Board (five County members) number twelve. The retiring members, Messrs Finlayson, Griffiths, Hawes, Al dirty re (Chairman) and Niven, will again go to the poll. Messrs Al. Clark and IL L. Evans are the nominees of the miners’ organisations for the Hospital Board, and County Council. There are four candidates for the Aucklam} City Alayoralty: Ernest Davis, Joseph Sayegh, A. J. Stallworthy. M.P., and H. G. R. Alasou, ALP. Mr Alason’s nomination thi* morning was a surprise, as Air Sayegh was chosen some weeks ago as the official Labour candidate. For the City Council (21 seats) there are 58 including full Citizens’ and Labour tickets, an.l three Communists. There are 28 candidates for the six seats in the Transport Board.
