HOKITIKA NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, March 31. The Christchurch excursionists were fortunate in having a fine day to-day for their visit. A fair number came on here. At the Borough Council’s meeting, two tenders were received for the cartage of metal for Hoffman Street, that of Mr Coyle being accepted. It wag decided to repair a 44-foot section of the Sin main in Hampden Street with steel cement-lined piping. The Council decided to proceed with the extension of the Sewell Street water system to Tudor Street, to enable house connections to be made. Mis E. Haddock made application for a domestic water supply to her residence in Stafford Street.- —Accepted. The Westland Cool Storage and Dairy Co., wrote regarding supply of water by meter.- —Received and held over. The N.Z. Alpine and Rock Garden Society wrote asking whether the Council had suitable situations for two rare plants. It was decided to reply in the affirmative. The Oppenheimer Casing Co., wrote asking for the total killing at the abattoirs from October 1, 1933, to September 30, 1934. —Received. The Railway Department advised it had adopted the agreement made between the Government and the Wellington City Council, in respect to rates on Crown properties occupied by weekly, monthly or quarterly tenants. A. R. 'Elcock made application for consent ro plan of sub-division of section part 854. and section 855.—Approved. ,T. M. Schroder wrote 'drawing attention to the footpath in Sewell Street between Park and Hampden Streets. On the motion of Cr. King it was decided the footpath be raised. Receipts amounted to'£4BB Is 7d, and expenditure to £832 13s 7d. There was a credit 'of £54 Is 3d in the district fund account. Accounts amounting to £289 6s 2d were passed for payment. The question of numbering the residences in Hokitika was raised by Cr. J. Cuttanee. The Town Clerk said it would mean inserting a special by-law. The Mayor (Mr G. A. Perry) said he did not think there was a present necessity, but. when the Council next revised itg by-laws, provision could then be made for the compulsory numbering of houses in the borough.
