THE WEATHER
WELLINGTON, January 1. The weather report and forecast are as follows:—General situation: A fairly intense depression now covers Eastern Tasman Sea and New Zealand. Forecast: Winds northerly north of Greymouth and Akaroa; elsewhere easterly, changing soon to southerly, and southerlies later extending up as far as Oook Strait, moderate to strong, and in places reaching gale force. Seas in New Zealand waters rough on the west coast and south of Castlepoint; elsewhere, moderate. Eastern Tasman Sea: Moderate to strong northerly winds, backing soon to southerlies in the southern half; seas rough. Weather unsettled, cloudy and misty generally, with rain in most districts. Thunder is probable in places. Temperatures warm, but becoming cooler to-morrow.
