UNIQUE ROBBERY

From Washington Monument

(Aus & N.Z. Cable Assn.)

Received ,December 28 at 7.15 p.m.) WASHINGTON, December 27.

From the tip of the Washington Monument, 556 feet above the ground there have been 107 gold-plated, plat-inum-tipped lightning rods stolen. They were stolen by someone who evidently reached them by climbing out on the scaffolding which surrounded the monument 'while it was being cleaned and repaired. The points were made of expensive metals so as to prevent corrosion. Guards are now on duty to protect the 63 remaining points which were not taken.
