Wellington R.C. AT TRENTHAM TODAY. (By the Delver). The Wellington Racing Club opens its Spring meeting at Trentham to-day am! as is usually the case the acceptances are very gratifying. With the exception of the Taita Handicap, good average fields will contest each event. Although it is not certain at time of writing, the Rimutaka Handicap may be run in divisions owing to the large acceptance of twenty-nine. The Wellington Handicap has filled well with eighteen, most of whom are aspirants for New Zealand Cup honours. Subsequent to victories secured at Masterton and Ellerslie several re handicaps will occur. Following are the acceptances and a short review of the card:

12.J7: GLEN HURDLES, 1 miles. — Royal Lineage J 1.5, Pahu 11.0, Illuminate 9.11, Revision, 9.9, Verden 9.8, Chile, Re r ] Sun 9.5, Diamond. Vitaphone 9.0. Royal Lineage won well at Auckland last Tuesday with 10.13 and may be penalised to-day. Revision won at Otaki and in that form will be prominent to-day. Palm will be suited by the track. Illuminate would be better suited by a shorter distance, the same remark also applies to Verden. Chile has not shown his National form at recent meetings. Red Sun is an improver and of the two in

the minimum Vitaphone has the best credentials. The popular selections will probably be; Revision Pahu Royal Lineage 12.57: TAITA HANDICAP, 5 iui.ongs.—Romp Along 8.0, Going Gay, Haut Monde 8.0, Round Up, Matrimony 7.12, Ho ro rat a 7.6. The field for the Taita Handicap is very small for a Trentham meeting and of the six carded most support »vill be accorded Romp Along Hororata 1.42: WAINUI HANDICAP, 1 mile. —-Cricket Bat 9.5, Aga Khan, Vintage 8.12, True Shaft 8.11, Ranelagh 8.9, Princess Doreen 8.7, Pomp 8.4, Might 8.1 fc Aiguille, Cyclonic 7.10, Mother Superior 7.9, Nightgua-rd, Semper Paratus 7.7, Sporting Blood

A handy field of fourteen will parade for the Wainui Handicap and there are several good milers included. C.icket Bat has not raced for some considerable time and may need a race or two. Aga Khan is very well at present and on recent performances has earned his weight. Vintage is standing up t<> his work well and will have the services of L. J. Ellis. True Shaft is reported to be in excellent fettle. His recent jumping efforts have not impaired his pace. He can be rc’ied upon to step a merry mile li’aii' lagh and Princess Doreen have >o‘li disappointed since racing at Nalional time. Pomp weakened at the Hid of both his races at Ellerslie and will require to improve although he nas 51bs less to carry. Might has gone up 41bs. for his win at Masterton, making his weight 8.5. Aiguille early last season gave promise of developing into a high-class performer, but has in many of his engagements, disappointed. Cyclonic has been rehandicapped another 41bs., bringing hi.' burden up to 8.0., and his Masterton efforts point to Jefferd’s horse being one of the favourites. Mother Superior has so far failed badly over a mile journey but Sporting Blood, by jis impressive win at Auckland last Tuesday, will probably go out the actual favourite. He will also carry a penalty. Nightguard and Semper Paratus do not appeal among this lot. Those with the best prospects are: Vintage Sporting Blood Might

2.22: RIMUTAKA HACK HANDICAP. ’7 furlongs.—Beau Ga/dant, Hunting Jay 9.4, Grand Sport 9j2. Diagano 8.12, Cawbeen 8.11, Pladie, Dollar Prince 8.8, Hesf 8.5, Court e.ga 8.3, Dombey 8.2, Hunting Lodge 8.1 Timorous, Cherry King 7.11, De Trop 7.9, Elbanor, Gay Boy 7.5, Arctic King 7.3, Argument, Balbus, Bay Area, Consummation, Dumpier, Dawn Princess, F’amingo. Flamariou, Flash Ronald, Madam Pompadour. Orby’s Last, Roderick Dhu 7.0.

Both Cherry King and Orby’s Last have been raised 7lbs. on their respective handicaps for wins at Masterton last week, bringing Cherry King up to 8.3 and Orby’s Last to 7.7. As there will either be a division or several late scratchings, individual comment is precluded. Three that appeal at time of writing are Dombey De Trop Arctic King

3.2: WELLINGTON HANDICAP, 1 mile and 3 furlongs.—Davolo 8.10, Bed Manfred 8.8, Brambletorn 8.4, Poly dora 8.3, Gold Trail 8.2, Spiral 8.1, Ik:zoor 7.13, Catalogue. Arikira 7.12, Copper King, Some Shamble 7.7. Gainsfid, Lady Ronald 7.4. Princess Doreen, Aesculus, Walton Park 7.3. Royal Artist, Silver Sight 7.0. The Wellington Handicap, with its eighteen acceptors may be looked upon as a full-dress rehearsal for the New Zealand Cup, run a fortnight hence. As the distance is only a mile and three furlongs, the staying ability of most of the runners will still be a debatable question in regard to their prospects of seeing out two miles. However, every season has to produce new horses to contest the various long distance events and included in the lot to contest the Wellington Handicap to-day may be horses destined to make history throughout the Dominion and the Commonwealth. Davolo will be racing over a furlong further than hitherto, but by the way he won the Islington Handicap at National time with 9.6 in the fast time of 2min. ssecs. on a holding track suggests that Campbell’s horse will get the extra furlong. Red Manfred 1 was running on at the end of his race at Ellerslie and showed that he is near his best. Brambletorn won the Metropolitan (H miles) last November, but much has not been heard of him recently. Polydora won at Timaru last Saturday, but the time 2min. 17 sec. is no indication of her real ability on account of the sloppy state of the track. She won well full of running and should give a good account of herself here. Gold Trail has been in the money in each of her last three starts and with 8.2 will have plenty of admirers. Spiral let his supporters down badly at Auckland and will have to improve to have any chance. Hazoor is fast coming to his best and reads well with 7.13. The next three Catalogue, Arikira and Copper King, are all capable of winning at their respective weights. Some Shamble never runs two races alike and will have to be taken on trust over the extra furlong. Gainsfid, although he won the last Parliamentary Handicap like a potential stayer, has not had much success since. Lady Ronald has won up to 1| miles and on recent form is a likely lightweight. Princess Doreen has failed badly over ten furlongs, and also has a prior engagement. xA.esculus has been racing prominently over middle distances during the past season and as he won at this meeting last year he may improve under his light impost. Walton Park has been raised 3 lbs. for his Masterton win, making his total weight 7.6. On Masterton form Burgess’ gelding has a royal chance. Royal Artist nearly brought off a surprise at Ellerslie or. Tuesday last, as after leading all the way he was only defeated by a

bare neck by Limbohm. On that form he is the best of the lightweights. Silver Sight has many friends and he will command a certain amount of support, but does not appeal in this class. Recent form favours the chances of Hazoor Royal Artist Polydora 3 42: WELLESLEY STAKES, 5 furlongs (Two-year-ollds).—l.ega,tee. Singaria, Galilee. Going Gay. Matrimony, Medway, Nightluss, Penelope, Severe. Nine two-year-olds are carded for the Wellesley Stakes and the places should be filled by Galilee Legatee Severe

4.22: SHORTS lIANDICAI’, li fur-longs.-—Autopay 9.5, Cadland 8.5, Inflation 7.11' Oopyist 7.10. Good Hunting 7.10, Stair Artist 7.9, Slippery 7.7. Water Power 7.6, Pin Money 7.2, Burnish. Grand Sport, Cawbeen 7.0. Class is well represented in the Shorts Handicap, of six furlongs. There are thirteen acceptors and included in the field are several of the Dominion’s best sprinters. Cadland, Water Power, Palermo, Good Hunting, Grand Sport and Pin Money are all recent winners. Autopay has just returned from Australia, but is reported to be well but has plenty of weight. A good betting pool may favour the chances of Good Hunting Copyist Grand Sport 5.5; OCTOBER HACK HANDICAP, I mile. —Synagogue 9.8, Cyclonic. Silver Sigh? 9.2, West Tor 8.11, Davis tuck 8.9, Sir Nigel 8.5, Korero 8.1 • Dorado 7.9, Boudoir. Cherry King, Strong Light 7.8, Canopy 7.7, Ebenni 7.3, Grand Blow, Leith, Revival, Top Coat, Purse 7.0.

There are some exceptionally good class hacks included in the eighteen acceptors for the October Handicap. Sy nagague, has gone up lib, .Cyclonic 7lbs, Sir Nigel 3lbs. and Cherry King 51bs. for recent wins at Mastarton. This will be one of the best betting races of the day and favouritism may point to Cherry King Dorado Sir Nigel AUCKLAND T.C ACCEPTANCES.
