WELLINGTON, September 15. At the New Zealand boxing championships at Hastings the referees will be J. I). Donovan (Hastings), J. Kilinartin (Otago), and the .judges, G. Bush (Auckland), T. A. Heath (Napier), and A. J. McArtney and A. Fyffe (Southland). For the Test match between Australian and New Zealand amateurs at Invercargill, A. Tall will referee. N. McLean will officiate at Auckland, 1 The Boxing Council declared the New Zealand professional lightweight title vacant because of the holder, J. Franklyn, having contravened the rules by demanding a set sum for the championship contest, win, lose or draw. The C. Rayner v. A. Hughes bout at Blenheim next Saturday will be for the lightweight title. RAYNER v. COSTA. DUNEDIN, September 16. There was a fair attendance at the Town Hall last night when Clarrie Rayner '8.13J (New Zealand) beat Dal Costa 8.104 (Australia). on points in a 10-round contest. The boxers gave a fine display of fast open fighting, making the pace hot, but although the Australian was game, he could not overcome th,* extra weight and superior strength of Ihe New Zealander. Rayner built up a good lead in the

earlier rounds, but towards the end Costa scored points xvith lefts to the jaw, but his blows lacked sting.
