MARKED TROUT

AT LAKE BRUNNER AND POERUA With a view to obtai’irng same knowledge of migrations of brown trout, approximately 50 fish wore marked last winter in tributaries of Lakes Brunner and Poerua. The fish were marked by the removal of the adipose or pelvic fins and in some' cases the pelvik*. fin and the adipose. The absence of different fins or combination of fins denotes different marking places. The adipose fin is the little fleshy 'one on the back between the dorsal fin and the ta'l. The pelvic fins are the pair on the belly immediately in front of the vent. Anglers capturing any brown trout minus fins are urgently requested to report the date and place of capture to the Secretary or Ranger nj- to state which fins were missing. Tn tho case of the pelvic fins, it -s desired to be stated whether it is tho left or the rilght fin. Tf measurements are taken of the fish, or a few scales saved, the information will bo doubly welcome. If any of those fish are taken, an opportunity of inspection .of such hv the Secretary or Ranger W'l| be appreciated.
