On a charge of drunkenness, a local resident, was convicted and discharged at the Magistrate’s Court at Greymouth, yesterday, before Mr Henry Morgan, S.M. On a charge of breaking his prohibition order, defendant was fined £2, in default four days’ imprisonment, one month being allowed to pay. Defendant said that he thought he had a touch of pleurisy and drank half a cupful of whisky before he left home the previous day. Tn convicting defendant, the Magistrate said he could have taken something for a cold, apart from liquor.

A body in a good state of preservation was found early yesterday afternoon on the Nine Mile beach, by some boys. It was removed to the Greymouth Morgue by Constables Kearney. Swan and Patterson, where it was identified by a member of the crew of the s.s. Kaimai, as being that of .Tames Woolley, aged about 45, a fireman on the s.s. Kaimiro, who had been missing since Thursday last. The deceased, who was a native of England, has, as far as can be ascertained, no relatives in New Zealand. An inquest will be held to-day. It is not known if deceased, who was a single man, had any relatives in the Dominion, but his mother, according to Mr R. Michie, of s.s. Kaimai, who identified the body, is a resident or Liverpool, of which city Woolley was a native. The body bore evidence of having been mutilated from contact with rocks. The funeral takes place this afternoon.

There will be quite an influx of West Coast school children and school teachers to Canterbury this week for the Winter Show and Exhbiition, 216 school children and 31 teachers or other adults in charge, taking advantage of the Railway Department’s special excursion rates to school parties. Thirteen children from the Burnett’s Face school, who left home at 5 a.m., were passengers by the Christchurch express yesterday morning, in charge of four adults, and to-morrow the following are the principal numbers who will make the trip, seven special cars being added to the train: Greymouth (Main and Technical High), 61 with 6 senior scholars and four adults; Brunner (Dobson, Taylorville), 10 (two adults); Runanga (State, Convent and Rewanui), 47 (four adults). Other schools represented will be: Kotuku, Blackball, Roa, Aickens, Ahaura, Te Kinga, Ru Ru, Kokiri. The parties, who leave on Thursday, will return by special train on Saturday, leaving Christchurch at 9.30 a.m. and arriving at Greymouth at 3.28 p.m.
