A traffic officer, Sergeant Parr, had a sensational clash with a Greek on Saturday, following on his interrogating a man for alleged .jay walking. It is stated that the officer was endeavouring to ascertain the man’s name, and followed him to the kitchen of a restaurant, where a. Greek, wearing a waiter’s coat, attacked the Sergeant with a chair. Eventually the Sergeant was picked up bodily, and thrown on to an almost red hot range, and he suffered severe burns to his legs and to one hand. Tn spite of his injuries, the officer dived at the man, who is alleged to have grasped a knife. After a further struggle, the man escaped into the street. The officer followed, and he saw the man running. Drawing his revolver, Sergeant Parr commanded the man to stop, and arrested him. The officer was subsequently taken to the hospital for treatment.
