RICCARTON MURDER
A POSSIBLE CLUE. (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, July 24. Part of a. shotgun containing an empty cartridge she'l has been found in a rubbish dump at Hornby, and the question of the relationship of the find to the Riccarton murder is engaging the attention of the police. The discovery was .made by a relief worker. The portion -of gun is considerably rusted, but it is questionable whether in the time which has passed since November 17. -when Donald Fraser licensee of the Racecourse Hotel, was murdered in his bed. rust would have proved so destructive of the. metal.
It was proved that Donald Fraser died from a gunshot wound caused by the discharge of both barrels of a gun. Obviously, if thc portion of gun found at Ho'rnby has any significance in relationship to the murder, the owner took the trouble to withdraw only one cartridge before throwing the weapon away.
