AERO CLUB

ANNUAL REPORT. The Secretary’s report for the annual meeting of the Greymouth Aero Club, to be held to-morrow night, at the Meeting Boom, Town Hall, is as follows; — “At a public meeting held in the Council Chambers on August 4, 1933. it was decided to form an Aero Club at Greymouth and all the preliminary work was successfully concluded and the Club registered on 2Sth October, 1933. The Greymouth Aero Club became one of the five constituent clubs in the formation of the West Coast (S-I.) Federated Aero Club, which latter was registered on 30th November, 1933, with headquarters at Greymouth. and was admitted to membership with the N.Z. Aero Club on Ist December, 1933. We were extremely fortunate in our mushroom growth and final recognition through the Federation by the N.Z. Aero Club who definitely closed their doors to further admissions at their meeting of Ist December last. It is pleasing to report that 153 members have been enrolled as at 31st March, and that the Local Bodies, the public of the surrounding districts, and the press have appreciated the aims and objects of our Chib by offering wholehearted support. Your Committee by a careful financial policy and a relentless progressive programme have established the Club on most promising lines. Funds have been conserved for the object of erecting the essential hangars and a Chib Room. and it would appear the realisation of this ambition is in the near future. By voluntary efforts of Club members a temporary landing ground was prepared at Omoto to serve an urgent want of the district. This ground has been used by aeroplanes from many parts of New Zealand and also the local public have on numerous urgent occasions had access to the means of air travel. Sustained efforts have, however. failed to obtain a temporary conditional license from the Director of Air Services on account of the proximity of hills, and the general flying conditions in that area making for poor approaches. Up to the present the Club has two pilot members and nine pupils undergoing training through the Federation. There are in addition 12 members who have intimated their intentions of training as soon as the Federated Club has a machine. The Executive Committee has held regular meetings on the first Monday in each month, and bv co-operation with Local Bodies, has contributed very materially towards the establishment of a foreshore landing ground for Greymouth. At this the first Annual General Meeting of the Club the present officers retire under the Club’s TtPes and it will remain for a full membership meeting which is hoped for. to elect officers to control their affairs during the ensuing year.—Yours faith full v, .T. H. Brailsford Hon. Spcretarv. ”
