Westland Matches The chief interest of the Westland senior competition on Saturday was in the meeting at Ross of the Excelsior and Ross teams, a good number of spectators travelling by special train from i Hokitika, while .South Westlandcrs sewelled the attendance to dimensions that Were nearly a record for Ross. In the first spell, and indeed in the early part of the second, the play was fairly even, with the visitors holding any advantage, but in the final stage Excelsiors proved too good. At halftime they led 5 to 3, and added three tries to nil in the second spell, thus winning by 14 to 3. In th e middle of the second spell, Ross lost one of their best forwards, Jones, whose shin bone was splintered by a kick, but the visitors allowed a replacement The scorers for Excelsiors were M Kelly, Muir, Froitas and Davidson, the last named converting one try. Jones scored for Ross. Davidson stood out as the best back on view, while Muir was another to play a good game.
