Th.* Administration of 11n* North, ern I'erritury received a wireless message from the plane Astrea, on gaged on the survey of th-- mail route, stating that she left Konang in the morning, but. that she wa-< unable as intended, to reach Darwin, owin; to headwinds, which had delayed the flight. Her petrol ran short, and the plane landed at the aerodrome on Bathurst. Island. Arrangements air being made to send petrol across by launch. Bathurst Tdand has an emergency landing Lroiiiul one mile from the Roman Catholic Mission Station there, so tha* ‘h 1 ' plane s crew should be well cared . o. Strong south easterly winds made visibility find owing to bush fires alon; the coast. 'l’he launch should arrive f the Island in about ten hours, hut the landing ground i l-’ng wrrfrom tho beach, hence th' l Astrea is unlikely to resume her tli n ht till Mon* day ISLAND MISSION TO RESCUE. DARWIN June 18. Owinr to tho difficulty of getting a local craft ready for a trip to tho Bathurst Island Mission, n vessel will come from tho Island to'day, ami will return in the evening with petrol. The Astrea is the first 1 lane to visit Bathurst. Island, whore there i? a runway two miles lotv by half n mile wide.
