A. AND P. SHOW RIGHTS
STOCK SALE INFRINGEMENT? (Per Press Association) PALMERSTON NORTH. June 15. The reported tendency of offering prizes for best stock at private stock sales, thereby weakening the rights of A. ar.dP. Shows, as being the main bodies for determining th ( « merits of pedigree stock, was debated at a conference of the North Island A. and P. Associations, held at Palmerston North to-day. The question arose from a recommendation of the secretaries of the conference to the effect that the conference should aim at securing legislation to amend the Agricultural and Pastoral Act making it impossible for a mercantile firm or other organisation to hold Shows in connection with pedigree stock sales. Several delegates opposed the idea of restricting such activity, claiming it would not in any degree influence the importance! of the awards of merit made at A. and P. Shows. The prizes offered at pedigree stock sales were awarded by competent judges There was no danger of the practice influencing the status of A. and P. Shows and it would be remembered that there was a danger of having too much legislation. The secretary’s viewpoint was that there was danger of Shows being held in conjunction with pedigree stock sales, instead of sales being hold in conjunction with Shows. He simply desired to bring this point under the notice of the Associations considering that the position would require watching. After the question was debated at some length, rte Conference decided to refer the question to the executive for consideration.
