(Our Own Correspondent.) HOKITIKA, June 16. Thp local fire engine yesterday afternoon made a surprising appearance in the streets, owing to one jiu-niher of the Fire Brigade having imagined that he had heard an alarm of tire. Another member who camp in uniform en route for the Station told further firemen, and in a few minutes the engine was manned—but there had been neither a fire nor an alarm.
