OPERA HOUSE—TO-NIGHT AND SATURDAY. ■ ‘BROTHER ALFRED. ’ ’ WITH GENE GERRARD —A BRITISH COMEDY. Gene Gerrard, who stars in “Brother Alfred,’’ to be screened, to-night and Saturday at the Opera House, was ■ badly bruised when he crashed down the companionway of a yacht which ’ is used in the film. Gene is seen to roll backwards down the companionway and to crash on to the landing stage below, a foot above the water. In view of the danger of injury a double stood by to carry out the stunt, 1 but Gene insisted on doing it himself. 1 It was arranged that a mat covering the landing stage should be padded 1 underneath so as to lessen the force of the impact. Gene superintended this himself. The cameras were set and ■ Gene launched himself backwards down the steps, his shoulders meeting the mat twelve feet below with a thud. ; A rush was made for the inert figure. Gene was helped to his feet, dazed land in obvious pain. “We didn’t, pad I the mat enough.’’ grunted the injured .| a-ctor.
