N.Z. TEAM DEFEATED. SYDNEY, June 13. South Maitland Coalfields Eleven defeated the New Zealand touring team at Cessnock by one to nil in a match which was full of interest. The teams were:— New Zealand: Zuill; Stone, Gerrard; Stenhousc, Christie. Crabbe; Ives, Blackie, Barton, Kershaw and Groves. South Maitland: McNabb, Evans, Whitelaw. Port eons. Aylor, Shakespeare. O'Neill, McGarvie, Ja.mes, Lannard and Kempe.

James, who scored the only goal, was the only forward to thoroughly test Zuill. Just before flic interval James sent in an oblique shot which Zuill did not attempt to stop. A few minutes later Zuill had to dive full length to deflect a. ball out of the net. Play was open throughout, only occasionally was either goal in danger. Ives and Zuill created a very favourable impression. Christie’s failure to move forward with the rest of the team allowed interceptions to be miade and lost opportunities for the visitors, who were very unlucky not to win as they were the far superior team.
