HOCKEY DERBY
A DRAW. AVESTPORT, June 8. The Country Hockey Derby (ladies) was played to-day at AVaimangaroa between the Rangers (Alillerton) and Koronui. The weather was fine and the attendance large. Both teams were unbeaten so far this season in the Sub-Association Championship, and it was generally thought the issue would decide the title, but a drawn game resulted, both sides scoring two goals. The players gave of their best, but the soft ground rendered play below par. The Rangers deserved to be successful and had all the best of the encounter, their forwards being too good for the home side. Aliss Beveridge opened the scoring early for Koronui, and Airs Lutton equalised for the Rangers. Aliss AI. Orman scored the Rangers’ second goal. The play was/fast and exciting. Airs Shcddon scored for Koronui in the last two minutes.
For Rangers, Alisscs AI. Orman, AI. Clarke, and S. Closs were prominent; and for Koronui, Alisses J. Chandler, O. Neighbours and Airs Shcddon played well. The teams will probably meet at Alillerton for a decider.
