DENIZENS OF THE DEEP
PLAGUE OF HUGE CRABS. FISHERS’ RMQ FEST TO GOV ER N .M ENT. MELBOURNE. June S. Melbourne fishermen at. Corner Inlet. Southern Gippsland, have made a strange request to the Government. They declare that their livelihood was jeopardised by an invasion of giant Crabs, some of which were two feet across, which abound in the local fishing waters. ■ The crabs, which are light strawberry coloured, closely resemble tin* giant Japanese variety, and can be seeen two to throe feet thick on the seabed for at least 22 miles. They are also swarming near Wilson’s Promontory. The fishermen are asking the Gov eminent for launches to haul heavy rollers over the seabed, in order to crush them.
