SPORTING

GREYMOUTH J.C. At Omoto To-day the fields and prospects. I lie <; icy mon (I) Jorkev ('lub’s win ter mooting will he held at Omoto to • lay and it there is a continuance ol yesterday's line sunny weather, there should he a ret-urd attendance. The fields in each vase, although not large are (airly good and excellent racing with keen finishes can confidently be il'Htked forward I". 'l’he track although il was yeslerdav morning in a I fairly heavy stale due to the heavy rains, should be in fair order to-day, although it cannot he anything else than on the heavy side. I’he first race, the Kaimata Hack Handicap, is scheduled to start at 12.30 o’clock, whilst the seventh and final race will be run at approximately 4.30 o’clock. The win ami place totalisnlor will be in operation, and in the majority of events, place-bettors will have three I plane- in which to secure a dividend. I 'l’he acceptances. with a review of the fields are as follows; — 12.30 p.m. KAIMATA HACK HANDICAP. fij furlongs.—Gold Sand 9.4. Solitaire Tl. 9.2, Gold Arrow 9.0. Forceful S.lO, Dawn o’ Day 8.2, Silver Sight 8.1, Helen Hayes 8.0, Marmoration 7.12, Marfich Felluce 7.10. There arc ten acceptors in the Kaimata Hack, the majority of which will all demand respect. Gold Sand, who I returned to winning form at Marlborough. is not exactly partial to heavy igoing, but nevertheless, will have to be considered. Solitare Tl on her I form at Hokitika and Reefton at Easter must he regarded as a distinct I possibility. although perhaps. the shorter distance later on may be more ■to her liking. She is. however, very well in present ami cannot be overI looked. Hold Arrow’s Easter form recommends her for this rare, whilst ; I’orreful. a recent arrival from the I North Island, has been working well, ami like (odd Arrow will be suited by 'the conditions. Dawn o’ Day is not averse to springing surprises and the I next is now overdue. By her forward running al Nelson, -he should be con'sidered to have a chance of running into a place at least. Silver Sight 'ran consistently into places in maiden company al Easter, whilst she also ran a good second at Reefton at Easter. Arrowmid and Helen Hayes are both in fine trim, but of the pair Arrowmid initisl he preferred. Marmoration has I been capable of pleasing elTots on the I track ami may repeat her Reefton surprise in running into a place. Marfich Felluce cannot be seriously considered. Summed up. Hie prospects of Solitaire 11. look good, am! she may 'find most opposition likely to come I from Gold Arrow or Forceful. 1.10 p.m. I JUNE II \ NDH'AI’ TROT (harness) 3.21 ' l;i-s, one mile ami three furlongs. ( Ma 1 chglon , Town Grier. Lemora. * i Dawn Sonoma. Major Brent scr. Plain [Pearl 21. (! h'ngo w rie 3G. Chancellor I Boy 60. j Plain pearl will not require In have j improved a great deal on Hasler form to lie an easy winner in the June Han dicap ami she should go out a warm I favourite to-day. Dawn Sonoma has been going along nicely in her preparation and suited by the distance i.-hoiild gain friends. Glengowrie is extremely partial io heavy going and is admirably suited by the distance. Major Brent is capable of winning if. he will only settle down, and off the limit cannot He overlooked. Lemora will no dould be supported, but his recent form has not been good. Town Crier should be a better proposition in the mile event. whilst Chancellor i | Boy who. tip till last Easter, could be | relied upon Io pare a a solid race, is: tiow prone Io break, but he may got kindly and if so. will have a chance. | Matchglow has yet to prove himself. I Plain Pearl makes strong appeal, whilst Dawn Sonoma and Glengowrie should also come in for solid support. 1.50 p.m. I GRANDSTAND HANDICAP: I) I miles.—Projection 9.0, Ravine 8.11. Eaton Hall 8.5, Fleeting Glance. Coll 8.1. Miss Mercia 7.12, Animated 7.11, Buoyant 7.10. The chief event, the Grandstand Handicap, of 1 | miles, includes proven stayers in Ravine and Eaton HallWith only Sst 11 lbs. and the minimum at 7st. lOlbs. Ravine, if anything near his old form, appears to be “pitchforked” into the race. Eaton Hall would appear to be the only other candidate likely to extend Ravine. Coll and Miss Mercia appear to he the only other pair like.lv to spring a surprise. Ravine if beaten should be retired. Eaton Hall or Miss Mercia should perform best of the remainder. 2.30 p.m. FLYING HANDICAP. 51 furlongs. —Projection 9.12, Solitaire IT. 9.0, Hampden 8.12. Awamutu 8.11, Taku Tama 8.9. Forceful. Full Crop 8.8, Miss Mercia 8.7. Noteworthy 8.2, Lady Rene 8.1. Tmasurvey 7.12, Knockbain. Tariff 7.10.

The Flying Handicap is a very open race, and speculation should bo keen. Solitaire IT, if reserved, must be strongly supported, whilst Projection. Hampden. Full Crop and Awamutu arc admirably suited to the distance. However. Projection’s heavy weight may be against his chances, as he does not relish the heavy going. Forceful and Lady Rene are. also suited to the distance. The most likely trio to be doing best al the finish are-. Solitaire 11. Forceful and Lady Rene. 3.10 p.m. WINTER HACK HANDICAP. 7 furlongs.—Gold Sand. Kuocklong 9.4, Eaton Hall 9.3, Gold Arrow 9.0. Dawn o’ Day 8.2, Silver Sight 8.1. Helen Haves 8.0, Marmoration 7.12, Marfich Felluce 7.10.

Knocklong is having her only start in the Winter Hack, whereas the other candidates will have started previous-

y. Knocklong is exceedingly well at present and what beats her should win. Gold Sand or Gold Arrow may be found the most likely to extend her. 3.50 p.m. KA lATA HANDICAP TROT (harness). 2.26 class, one mile. —Matchglow. Town Crier, Lemora, Levanter scr. Royal Time 12, Major Brent. Dawn Sonoma 24, Glengowrie, Plain Pearl 36, Chancellor Boy 60. Form in the first trot should act as a fair guide to investors in the Kaiata Trot, although Town Crier will he better suited to (he distance. Town Crier, Lemora or Major Brent should he a trio calling for the judge’s attention al Hie finish Royal Time ami Glengowrie will be hrarki’ted in this event. 1.30 p.m. PINAL HANDICAP, 6t furlongs.— Projection 'J.IO. Ravine 9.6, Coll 9.0. Hampden 5.12, Awamutu 5.9, Full Crop. Taku Tama, Fleeting Glance 8.8, Miss Mioi-’m, (Jiggleswick 8.7, Buoyant 5.3. Eo rial ice. Noteworthy 8.0, Lady Rene 7.13. Marmoration. Jmasurvey 7.12. 'l’he I'iiml Handicap has drawn Ihe large field of sixteen starters. the majority of which will undoubtedly be sent out in pursuit of their winter oats. It would not In* beyond Ravine’s capabilities to win this race even if he won the chief event and incurred a penalty, but if he were not started the first choice should go to Giggles\\ick, who has been training on well since his let up. Taku Tama cannot be disregarded. Neither should Miss Mercia. Coll. Lady Rone or Fortali.ee. Ravine or Giggleswick make strong appeal, and may find most opposition likely to come from Coll.

WHANGAREI APPEAL. DISMISSED BY THE JUDGES. AUCKLAND. June 2. The appeal by the Whangarei Racing Club against the decision of the Auckland District Committee in the Princess Star ease was dismissed by Messrs C. W. Tringham, E. L. Riddiford, and W. Perry, of Wellington, the Appeal Judges appointed by the President of the New Zealand Racing Conference. The judgment is as follows: •‘ln the matter of the appeal of the Whangarei Racing Club against the decision of the Auckland District Committee in upholding the appeals lodged by W. Scholium (owner). W. Goscomb (trainer), and G. Grice (rider) -of the horse Princess Star against their disqualification for six months from April 6, 1933, bv the Judicial Committee of the Whangarei Racing Club, which Committe<‘ is of opinion that Princess Star was not run on her merits in the Portland Hack Handicap and that all throe were guilty of a contravention of Rule 295, the Judges, having carefully considered the evidence tendered by the Judicial Committee of the Whangarei Racing Club, and also to the Auckland District Committee, and having heard and considered further evidence submitted them, find “that, in their opinion, the Judicial Committee of the Whangarei Racing Club were perfectly justified in holding an enquiry into

the running of Princess Star, riddei by the apprentice. Grice, in the Port land Hack Handicap, run on April f 1933. but. while the Judges are ex tremely anxious on all occasions t< support the findings of Judicial Com mittees whenever possible, thev con sider that, in view of the character istic ot the horse, am] of the absenci of fraudulent intent on the part o tin- owner and trainer, the .Indicia < ommittee in this case was not justi tied in arriving at the decision t< which it came. They think the ap prentice. Grice, did not ride Princes: Star to tin* best advantage, but. be yond that, there was no justificatior lor the disqualification of the owner trainer and rider of Princess Sta under Rule 295 of the Rules of Rac ing.
