A native, Pekawa Pouaka, of Whakatana. arrested at Ruatoiia. charged with the theft of a motor cycle, escaped from custody, and no trace could be found of him .for several days. Ultimately, Constable Ryan stationed himself day and night on a high hill over looking the country round Tuparoa, from whence, through glasses, he observed the cscapoi*. and then effected the arrest. DUNEDIN, May 5. Jack Robert Borthwick, 21. was fatally injured at Balcaitha yesterday in a fall from a tree.
