SEASIDE FATALITY

MOTHER AND DAUGHTER DROWNED. (Per Press Association). DARGAVILLE, December 7. A double drowning fatality occurred in the Alahntu Gorge, a seaside resort, six miles from Dargaville, last night. T. G. Parkes, a resident of Mangawhare, accompanied by his wife. Williamina Stafford Parkes, aged 42. and his daughter, Irene Grace, about ton, went out by car to the beach to gather toheroas. While the husband was gathering toheroas, Airs Parkes and the daughter went bathing. The husband returned from his quest and could not see anything of his wife or daughter, and after an unsuccessful search, motored to the nearest telephone, some live miles distant, for a search party to come out. A number of residents and police immediately went out. It was then fairly late, but being moonlight, after a short search, the mother's body was found at high water mark. No one saw the accident, but it is surmised the mother saw the daughter in difficulties, rushed to her assistance, fell on her face, anad was suffocated, as no water was in the body when found. The search for the body of the daughter was continued all night, but op to the present no trace has been found.
