RIFLE SHOOTING

NOTES AND COMMENTS. (By Bulls-eye.) Frightful weather spoiled what would have been a wonderful tournament on the Brunner Rifle Range last Sunday. The competing teams were Geymouth, Ruru and Brunner, all being at full strength. Greymouth won by nine points from Ruru. Too much notice should not be taken of the great varietv of scores as some of the marksmen had worse conditions to contend with than others. 1 I). Seannell’s score of 92 was a splendid effort and would take a power of beating on any other range in New Zealand. IL* is the essence of consistency and only bad luck has prevented him from heading the list on previous occasions. G Smith put up a splendid performance with 90 on bis home range. George is one of the live wires of the Brunner Club, and success for him is always well received. Riflemen Richardson ami Sharman have lost form, temporarily, both recording low scores over the week-end. The top scorer for Ruru was P. Feary. His score of 33 at 500 yards was an excellent effort. J. Harper lost several good points by turning his sight screw in the wrong direction. Joe will look well before he alters next time. The first possible on the Coast for this season was notched by a young shot. T. Nimmo, at 500yds last week. (’. Kennedy shot consistently throughout tho match to register ,B*. He should be hard to head off in the Ruru competitions. There is every prospect of a new rifle club being inaugurated at Ikamatua. There is room for a range of 1000 yards, and if erected would be one of the best ranges in the South Island. I can assure the Ikamatua sports that every assistance will be given them by the different clubs about. “Bill” Garth proved he is not a spent light yet by registering second top score out of the thirty num shooting at Brunner. He looks like taking a new lease of life. Lost we forget: The Brunner ladies are to be congratulated and thanked on the sumptuous repast they provided for the visitors. If there is one thing, a rifleman looks forward to, more than the actual shooting, it is dinner on the range. George Nimmo rose to the occasion as mine host, and his good work was much appreciated. The new President of the Greyniouth Club. G. Joyce, shots fairly well —whenever he puts in an appearance on the range. He gave a neat little speech at Brunner which was well received bv all those who heard it. Let’s sec more of you. Gerald. The arrangements are well in hand now for the first meeting of the West Coast Rille Championships. The meeting, which may last two days, will probably be run in February, in conjunction with Carnival Week ami the A. and P. Show. It is opportune now for the Carnival officials to step in and help the Association, and it will be an added attraction to “Come to Greymouth Week.” There is every prospect of the Championships being held at Cobden.
