WIDOW’S PETITION

INADEQUATE STATE ALLOWANCE EGGERS MURDER RECALLED. (Emm Chir Parliament.'! r v Reporter PA R LIA Al EN T BUILDIN GB, December 6. A co.mplaint of inadequate treatment from the Government was made by Mrs Ann Winder Esther llall. of Greymouth, in a petition which was presented to the House to-day by Air Jus O'Brien. The petitioner stated thnt her husband was murdered while carrying out his duties as Paymaster of the State Mine, Runanga, on 27th. December. 1917. She was paid a compensation allowance of £lOOO, and sin ted that, she was promised a position in a Government Department. “I have always considered, and Ministers of the Crown have agreed, - ' she said, “that the £lOOO compassionate allowance was insufficient,» ami that the position I was to be given would enable me to keep myself and family in a respectable position. The allowance granted has enabled me to keep' the children only.’’ She asked that she be made a further grant, of £lOOO.
