SUPERANNUATION
MORE EVIDENCE. (Per Press Association). WELLINGTON. December 6. The select committee of the House of Representatives which is hearing evidence as to tho Government Superannuation Funds Bill resumed its sittings to-day. The parties heard were the superannuated publie servants of Palmerston North, and the sufpieranuuated teachers of New Zealand. Tomorrow morning evidence will be given on behalf of the Railway Snperannuitants’ Association. Tlie Palmerston North superannuitants viewed with grave concern the growth of the idea that contracts might readily be broken. They expressed the opinion that the National Expenditure Commission’s report had caused the widespread belief that the funds are in much a worse position than is actually the ease. The superannuated teachers contended that, apart altogether from the superannuation schemes, if the State, on a ground of expediency, shattered the charter given on its honour, it) was difficult to seo how commercial concerns, parties to contracts, and ordinary citizens could be expected to [ honour they obligations to each other I and to the State.
