Attempted Murder THE DUNEDIN CHARGE. (I’er Pros* Association). DI NEDIN, Deccml»«*r 15. On a charge of attempting to murder Ruth Eleanor Corlct on November 14th. Thomas Polson appeared on remand in the City Police Court this morning, and he was again remanded till Docember 16 The only evidence given was that by Terence Arthur Al oars Ala unsell, a University student, who told a story o-f finding the accused in the room of another girl in a boarding house, of cap tiring him, and of subsequently allowing him to leave the house. GAMBLING RAIDS. AFCKLAND, December 2. A raid on premises in Wellesley Street West was <anieil out by de tectives this afternoon and later two Chinese and six Europeans appeared in the Magistrate’s Court. Charlie l.ee was charged with keeping premises as a common gaming house. “If he has no money tin* only thing to do is to send him to prison,’’ the Magistrate said. “He has been fine! twice previously for a similar offence, tin* last time in February of this year. He seems to regard fines as license fees. There have, however, not been many of these cases lately.’’ Detective-Sergeant Kelly: Not since your Worship dealt with the last man in a salutary manner. GISBORNE, December 5. Early on Sunday morning, the police raided a house in Grey Street. As a result, fourteen men were charged at the Police Court with breaches of the Gaming Act, and were remanded till Friday.
