BUTTER EXPORTS

Australia’s Increase COMPETITION FOB N.Z. (Aus. & N.Z. Cab\ Assn). (Received September 22 at 10 p.m.) CANBERRA, September 22. The annual repbrt of the Dairy Produce Control Board reveals that 91,086 tons of butter were exported from Australia last y ear ? this being an increase of 17.335 tons over the previous year, and of the total 83.973 tons went to the United Kingdom. Th© report states that the average weekly price of the Australian butter shipped up to June 30th 1932. was 104 s 6d per cwt., as compared with 116 s per cwt., for 1930-31. The lower price was due to depression and to increased Continental competition. The report stated that the quality of the Australian butter was high, and that there was a n entire absence of complaint. The exports of cheese were 3,378 ton s which was slightly below the previous year. The Board emphasised that as a result of the Ottawa preferences on butter. cheese, and eggs, local and other Dominion exporters should obtain a still larger share of the British trade in future.
