BULLER ELECTORATE

BLACKBALL SINGLE MEN. Alp H. E. Holland, M.P., has received the* following letter (9.9.32) from the Minister of Employment: “Further to my letter of the 25th ultimo, with re_ fereneo to representations made by you that in view of certain prospective works of a permanent nature in the vicinity of Blackball, the single men df that township be exempted from proceeding- into relief camps, so that they should b e available for these works when put in hand, from enquiries made I am informed that the prospective works of a permanent nature referred to are th e Croesus Track and the Golden Gate Dredging Ciaim, but that there is no immediate prospect of the latter work developing. In this connection I have to advise the ten men at present, employed o n the Croesus Track arc already exempted from relief camp’s as they arc on the sam e footing as men in relief camps in that they are required to camp on the job. Insofar as the Golden Gate Dredging development is concerned, should this work be proceeded with there are a sufficient number of married men in t-he- locality able and willing to supply any labour which mar b 6 required fop this work. Tn view of the foregoing the Unemployment Board regrets it is unable to agree to a genera] exemption from relief camps beingmade in the case of single men at Blackball.”
