WELCOME RAINS
IN NOB’-WEST OF N.S.W. (Received September 16 at 5.5 p.m A SYDNEY, September 16. Heavy rain has fallen in the northwest districts of New South Wales, and it has soaked the wheat districts, where the farmers rejoice at the prospects of their crops doing well. The residents in the towns there, however, are in some cases anxious owing to the rapid rise of the rivers. Denilquin has reported that the Edward River has risen twenty-one feet this morning, but the town is believed to be safe. A moderate easterly gale, which is a rarity, is blowing at the Sydney Heads. Coastal shipping is seeking shelter.
