Little Doubt has been rehandicapped 41b, making 8.5. RACING. Noteworthy is being schooled over hurdles at Reefton in view of winter engagements. So far the Paper MoneyGazeworthy six year old gelding has only been allotted light tasks. Noteworthy, who has won some useful stake money on the flat for his owner, Mr W. S. Clarke, of Inangahua Junction, should have prospects of being a success over the battens, as he is a speedy customer when well. He performed rather disappointingly during the Coast Easter circuit, when big things were expected of him.

Smithereens has fully recovered from the effects of the trouble which he de veloped whilst racing at Greymouth, but it is very doubtful whether the aged Arrowsmith gelding will race again.

Taku Tama and Monastic are likely to claim engagements at the Greymouth and Reefton June meetings. They are at present located at Ashburton and are stated to be in preparation for West Coast engagements. The aged Acre-Pengola mare, Fortalice, is being prepared at Reef ton for the forthcoming Coast meetings. Fortalice has raced consistently into third and fourth places at the Greymouth and Reefton Easter meetings, and although it was no great achievement, won three events, including the Cup, at the recent Karamea non-totalisator meeting. A. J. Griffen has the speedy White Doe in work at Reefton. The Royal Stag mare is not being given a great deal of work as she is very well after her outing at Nelson, where she won well. Gold Bag, who showed improved form at the Nelson and Marlborough meetings, is working very well at Reefton, and with Jael is being prepared for the Coast meetings in June. Jael is also very well at present, and in a try-out over five furlongs recently, beat Fortaliee, both horses putting up a good gallop. R. Menzies has Newboy and Royal Stanley in work at Westport, and he is also working two yearlings which, as yet, are still unnamed. Clamor failed to stand up to work and has been turned out for the winter. But for being unsound, the Clar-enceux-Lady Minerva six year old gelding who has yet to open his winning account, should be a good performer, as at the Reefton autumn meeting in 1931 he showed great promise in hack company, when he ran two very good seconds on the same day. The Reefton owner, Mr J. Harris, has been particularly unfortunate in this unsoundness of the gelding. Full Crop is being given useful work at Westport by T. Smith, in preparation for the June meetings. The Autumn —Robella gelding failed badly at Nelson, but is now showing a vast improvement. Miss M. C. Wilson, of Reefton, has a two-year-old gelding by Silverado, from Spotlight, which is at yet unnamed. The youngster is showing good promise. Gesture, who has been spelling for the past three months, has rejoined C. Emerson’s stable. Lochlaggan will be taken to the Dunedin meeting by Emerson, ajid afterwards sent on to her owner’s place at Otautau, to be put aside for the winter. The well known Hawke’s Bay galloper, Merry Mint, is getting through a fair amount of solid work at Hastings, and will be given a run at next

month’s winter meetings in that district. The Awapuni apprentice, K. Voitre, has established an appreciable lead in the jockeys’ list, his total of 72 beingeleven ahead of H. Gray and H. Wiggins. B. H. Morris is next with 51, and there is then a break to L. J. Ellis with 38, and A. E. Ellis 37. Up to May 7th, the Blenheim trainer, T. R. George, was well in the lead for the trainers’ premiership with 39 wins, the next on the list, Mrs A. McDonald and E. J. Ellis each having 25. Nukumai was to have started in the Wanganui Steeplechase on Saturday, but was suffering from the effects of knocking himself while racing the previous week. He will now be reserved for Waikato and Auckland. Slump would undoubtedly have won the Grandstand Steeplechase at Wan ganui had he stood up at the last fence. He is among the last of the Absurds racing. TROTTING. The aged bay gelding, Allanora, b> Rey de Oro from Atlanta, now owned 1 v Mr Archer, is being trained at Reefton by C. Noble, and is showing good promise. S. C. Griggs has turned both Etiquette and La Rinkie out for the winter. W. R. L. Pascoe, of Reefton, has a half-sister to Wargirl in hand. She has yet to be named. The brilliant Nelson owned and trained mare Dilworth, who broke down at the Wellington Trotting Club’s meeting, last January, was last week fined in the hope that she may stand another preparation.
