THE WEATHER

The weather report and forecast are s follows:—General situation: Pressure is still low to the east and north of New Zealand, while an intense anti-cclone extends from Tasmania towards the southern portion. Forecast: Winds south-east to southerly, still strong, in many places and ot gale force at times in parts of the Cook Strait area, and between Kaikoura and East Cape. Seas (N.Z. waters): Heavy between Kaikoura and East Cape, and in Cook Strait; moderate south of Farewell Spit; elsewhere, rough. Eastern Tasman SeaModerate to strong sDiitherly winds; seas rather rough. Weather*. Mainly fair to fine in the western half of the South Island; eleswhere, still squally and changeable with showers, heavy in places between Kaikoura and Eas* Cape, but,elsewhere lighter and scattered. Temperatures cold. A gradual improvement is likely especially in the western districts.
