IAAORI WITH STOLEN WATCHES. (Per j*re«ic Association). AUCKLAND, May 2. Rangi Edward Te Aka, 22, pleaded guilty to stealing four gold wristlot watches valued at £l4, on the night of the Queen Street riot. The police gave evidence that t!:o numbers of the watches had been filed off. Counseh replying thereto, said that Rangi told him the reason ho filed the 'numbers ojf was because he wanted to find out if the watches were real I gold, as he had been travelling for a 'firm which brought gold. “Te Aka [comes from Hawera, where his father ■is a big chief. Rangi was too ashamea to go home, after serving two rnonths’ for unlawful ear conversion.”

Magistrate Hunt: “Well, he won’t, sec the big chief for another six months anyway,” in imprisoning him for that period.
