Mr G. Perotti has returned from a visit to Christchurch. x, Mr G. S. Amos, of WeHTngton, arrived yesterday from Christchurch. Mrs A. Beban has returned from a visit to Christchurch. Miss Doreen Daly, of Christchurch, is visiting her parents, Mr and Mrs C. Daly, High Street. Mr 'P. G. Roussell, general manager of Railways, has been granted the rank of honorary colonel of the New Zealand Military Forces. Guests at Bevington's Hotel includeMiss E. M. Helycr (London), Mr J. C Wilson (Christchurch), Mr G. Oolites (Wellington), Mr G. J. D. Stitt (Auek land), Mr G. M. Smith {Wellington). Mr J. W. Foster (Nelson). At a meeting of the Executive of the West Coast Competitions Society yesterday afternoon, Miss Peggy Cartoll, L.T.C.L., was appointed Official Accompaniste fqr the Jubilee Festival at the end of August next. The resignation of Mr T. F. Savage as conductor of the Greymouth Philharmonic. Society has been accepted by the Committee, and will take effect after the Society’s next presentation. The death is announced from Stratford of Nathan Seddon, aged 59, an officer in the Public Works, in which Department he held office as Inspector. He was a nephew of the late Mr R. •I. Seddon. He leaves a widow and daughter, Miss Seddon (Stratford), and a son, Mr N. R. Seddon (Wellington). The death took place at. the Gres Hospital yesterday morning, following on a brief illness, of Gertrude, wife of Thomas Steele, of Dunollic. The deceased lady, who was 26 years ofage, is survived by her husband and one child. The funeral will take place to-day, leaving the Church of the Sacred Heart, Runanga, at 9.30 o’clock, for the Karoro Cemetery.
Many West Coast friends will regret to learn of the death after a long illness, at Sydney, of Mr William (“Hoplcy”) Power, formerly a wellknown miner on the Coast, who worked on the Inangahua field. He was a native of Victoria, and a genial character. He was one of those engaged in the Orongorongo Tunnel contract, and was noted as a very capable miner. He leaves a sister residing at. Sydney, while Messrs Pat and Phil Power, of the West Coast, are cousins of do-, ceased.
