REEFTON NOTES

(Our Own Correspondent.) REEFTON, May 1. Mr John O’Regan, having signified his withdrawal as a candidate for election as a member of the Inangahua Hospital Board, the remaining eight candidates have been duly declared to be elected. This action on the part of Mr O’Regan is one which will be commended by all ratepayers, particularly in these times. Mr O’Regan has rendered splendid service on the Board for a period extending over many years, and his action, prompted wholly in the interests of economy, will not be lost sight of in the future. To use Mr O’Regan’s own words, he considers the interests of the Board will be well served by the remaining eight members. A visitor who left for Alexander on Thursday had a most trying experience. On reaching the hill he somehow got off the track, owing, he said, to being not properly directed. When night arrived he was still in the bush ami wet and cold, and though he tried to light a fire, he failed dismally, although he used three boxes of matches in so doing. He spent the night in the bush, which, fortunately, was not a cold one, except that his wet feet and legs were very cold. Next day he attempted to reach the road, and though he wandered about in the bush all the day, he made little progress until some of the miners coming from the Alexander Mine found him and got him to the road, which he reached*in a very spent condition, and was brought on into town by a motor. Today, however, he seemed little the worse for the experience, except that he had sustained considerable bruising through falling and is willing to have another go in the near future.
