FUNDS PETERING OUT Federal Allegations (Received April 29 at. 7 p.m.) CANBERRA, April 29. The Prime Minister, Mr Lyons, hav ing been asked by the Secretary of the' New South Wales Public Service Association to provide the salaries of the Now South Wales public servants, in the event of Mr Lang being unable to meet them, has replied stating that this question was one for the Lang Government alone. The Acting Federal Attorney-Gen-eral, Senator McLachlan, stated in the Senate to-da y that the Federal Government felt impelled to introduce legislation safeguarding the interests of th.? beneficiaries of the trust funds deposited in the banks in the name of the Colonial Treasurer of New South Wales, and which, apparently, had been used for other purposes. Senator McLachlan said he had definite knowledge tha*t £483,000 of trust moneys had been paid into the banks, and that all but £60.000 had been withdrawn. Seemingly it had been spent in ways not in accordance with the (rust condit ons under which the money was held. The Senate passed the Enforcement Act through all stages on voices in thirty minutes. A resolution to attack all the New South Wales State revenues, including a million pounds of liquor fees due shortly, will be introduced in both Houses, next week. Replying to a question in the House of Representatives, Mr Lyons said it was proposed to allocate £600,000 for the relief of unemployment in New South Wales.

Other attached revenue amounted to £7311, but the Lang Government still owed two millions. The Federal Taxation Commission’s annual report discloses the income tai. collected on behalf of the Comnion- , wealth throughout Australia for 1930-31 totalled £13,604,376. Th© total income tax outstanding was £4.933 376, half of which was due by New South Wales taxpayers. Land tax collections for the year were £2,758,598. Sales tax receipts aggregated £3,465,028, which is 1| millions below .the estimate. DEPORTATION POLICY. CANBERRA, April 28. Extended powers to control immigration and deportation of undesirables is embodied in the Bill to amend th“ Immigration Act, which was read a first time in the Senate. Under the Act, any person may be declared a prohibited immigrant who has been convicted of cr'mc and sentenced to imprisonment for one year, or more.
