(Per Press Association;. WELLINGTON, April 28. Dr Kidson’s weather report and forecast are as follows: —General situation: The northern cyclone has been moving in a southerly direction, and is now centred near Cape Maria Van Dieman, and another slight westerly depression is crossing the southern portion of the Dominion. Forecast: Winds north-east to south-east about and north of Cook Strait and strong co gale force, gradually becoming more southerly; elsewhere southerlies prevailing and freshening . Seas (N.Z. waters) heavy north of Castlepoint and becoming rough north of Farewell Spit and Kaikoura, but moderate thence southwards. Eastern Tasman Sea: South-east to southerly winds, strong to gale force in the northern portion, with rough seas; moderate winds in the southern portion, with moderate seas. Weather: Mainly fair, hut with some scattered showers in the southern half of the South Island; elsewhere dull and misty with rain. Heavy falls of rain are likely from Nelson and Marlborough northwards, with some flooding in the Auckland and Hawke’s Bay provinces. Temperatures becoming cooler.
