PRISONERS SENTENCED. (Per Press Association) DUNEDIN, April 28. At. the Supreme Court, Thomas Henry Becking Sale, aged 19, on a charge of making a false declaration under the Marriage Act, was ordered to come up for sentence if called on, within two years. Edward Hughes, cx-einploycc at Seacliff Mental Hospital, on a charge of theft of £l3O, was admitted to two years’ probation. The evidence had disclosed that the prisoner was diabetic, his life depending on rigid dieting. IMPRISONMENT POR THEFT. WELLINGTON, April 28. Stanley Alekna, a Russian, on appearance in the dock for theft, was recognised as a man who had been chased for theft from a shop on a prior occasion. This was yesterday. Accused, who had been previously convicted for theft, got a term of six months’ imprisonment to-day. STOWAWAY FINED. WELLINGTON, April 28. The prospect of a short-term imprisonment at Home, on arrival there, not having stopped men stowing away, the Shaw Savill Company has decided that in future stowaways will he landed at the first port of call, and returned to New Zealand. Returned thus from Balboa, Mai Jones was to-day fined £2O, in default one month’s imprisonment for stowing on the Otira.
