RUNANGA NOTES

Caledonian Society SOCIAL EVENING. A most enjoyable social evening was spent by the Runanga Caledonian Society on Saturday evening' when visitors from Westport and Greymouth were entertained. A dainty supper was served and an enjoyable programme of dancing and musical items was presented. Dance music was sup plied by Messrs D. Hamil (accordeon), I). Cullen (dulcimer), and bagpipes. Mr A. Williams was a capable M.C. Dane ing items were given by the following: Misses Helen McLean (sailor’s hornpipe), Miriam Trott, Edna Armstrong, Ella Jackson (Irish Jig and Highland Fling), and songs by Mrs King, “Daughter of Mother Machree”; Mrs Norrie, “My Ain Folk”; Mrs A. Wright, “Barefoot Trail”; Mrs B. Pago, “Beautiful Sunday”; (Mr T. Hutchinson, “Away Up in Holland,” and “The Alpine Song.” The singing of “Auld Lang Syne” brought a pleasant ©vening to a close.
